VOG Community Guidelines

Abstract

VOG provides the ultimate in online gaming and is famous for it's atmosphere suitable for people of all genders, races, religions etc. We're all here to have fun, so let's keep it clean!

Community Guidelines

  • Disruptive behavior during game play, such as but not limited to harassing opponents or revealing moves to a player while kibitzing a game in progress is prohibited. Remember if a player is disruptive at your table you may disallow kibitzing by clicking the Options button located at the table and checking Private table checkbox. (Note: Even if kibitzing is turned off you may still invite other players to your table by right clicking on their nickname and selecting "Invite to kibitz". As a courtesy players should ask kibitzers to leave their table prior to using the kick option. Opponents should not re-invite players who have been asked to leave or kicked from a private table.)
  • Please keep conversations that contain profanity, sexually explicit language including innuendoes at the privacy of your table amongst consenting parties. VOG does not advocate censorship, we choose to do our best to let our members resolve their individual, personal conflicts between themselves. However, if VOG receives complaints, or the behavior is displayed in the public chat areas, we will have no choice but to get involved, because it would mean this is not happening between consenting players, and it is not being resolved by them either.
  • Racial, ethnic, religious or sexual slurs will not be tolerated.
  • Profiles must be free of pornographic pictures, links and words, as well as any references that are inconsistent with the Community Guidelines.
  • Targeting other players to distress or embarrassment is harassment and will not be permitted. This includes creating accounts with names that are meant to defame or otherwise harass other VOG players.
  • VOG asks that you respect the privacy of other players, please do not post other people's phone numbers, addresses, or any other private information.
  • Personal attacks, fighting, online stalking, rude, violent or crude behavior is not allowed. For more information on this issue please go to http://www.wiredpatrol.org/ and http://www.ncvc.org/infolink/main.htm all violations of these laws will be prosecuted.
  • Please do not flood chats (impede conversations by using repeated blocks of text) or yell at other members by using excessive capital letters.
  • Account abuse is prohibited; this includes but is not limited to forms of ratings stacking such as accepting multiple wins from a player whom is intentionally losing.
  • A player may sign-up with no more than two nicknames in the same tournament, and ONLY for the purpose of getting the tournament started. A player may use only ONE nickname during each tournament to play with. Playing in the same tournament with more than one nickname is not allowed and could result in immediate account deactivation.
  • During tournament play, purposefully delaying the tournament, by not moving in a lost or losing position, or by disconnecting from the server on purpose will not be tolerated, and may result in deactivation of your account.
  • Cheating will not be tolerated. This includes but is not limited to the following: using computer programs to play games. If you wish to use a program, you must contact VOG at info@vogclub.com and express a desire to use a computer program. VOG will then set the Gender property in your profile to computer and you will be allowed to play against VOG players. You must also place a comment in your profile which informs others you are using a program, and before the start of each game you must notify your opponent that they will be playing against a computer program. This will allow players to decide whether or not they wish to play against a non-human opponent. If it is discovered that you are using a computer program to play and you have not followed the above policy VOG, will have no option but to set the gender property to computer for your nickname and possibly deactivate your nickname altogether, which would include forfeiture of any premium membership fees. Repeated violations could result in complete account deactivation from VOG. Also, please be aware that computer programs may not participate in VOG Tournaments.
  • Advertising of any form is not allowed without prior, written approval from VOG.
  • You agree that VOG Guides and Hosts have the ability to kick, gag and/or ban you from the VOG server for non-compliance with this policy. Guides and Hosts are volunteers who contribute their time and energy keeping our site a fun and friendly place for everyone. Therefore we require that they and their requests be treated with respect at all times.
  • VOG reserves the right to refuse service and by connecting to the VOG you agree to comply with the Community Guidelines. If persons other than yourself on your computer access VOG, you are responsible for their actions. Failure to comply with the Community Guidelines could result in termination of the end user license agreement and deactivating your account's access to the server. A serious breach of this policy could result in total barring from VOG with forfeiture of fees, if you paid any.

Thank you for understanding and we hope your stay at VOG will be a pleasure!

Thank you for your interest in becoming VOG Premium Member!

Premium Membership for 1 year costs $29.95, which is only about $2.5 per month!

Premium Membership Benefits

VOG Premium Members have quite a few benefits:

  • Not subject to advertisement It may be very distracting to play games when banners are flashing at your table. Also banners do occupy valuable screen space, which could otherwise be used for a bigger board, for example. Premium Members are not subject to advertising. It is not shown to Premium Members and not only saves valuable screen space, but also reduces Internet traffic, which results in a better (faster) gaming experience and often reduces Internet access bills too.
  • Rated play in human-to-human rankings VOG includes several major rating categories for: games against human opponents, games against computer opponents (bots) and tournament games. While guests can play rated games against computer opponents (bots) and in tournaments during their trial period, only Premium Members can play rated games against human opponents. Over 6 years of online gaming services development experience taught us that unless players have to pay for the right to play rated games in human-to-human games, rating system abuse will be rampant. For example, cheaters will create multiple guest nicknames and use them to resign points to their main nickname. Allowing only Premium Members to play rated human-to-human games we ensure that VOG rating pools are valid and abuse free and this certainly adds another value to the Premium Membership.

Any rating abuse is punished by immediate and permanent loss of access to VOG server for the abusive nickname.

  • Tournaments benefits Both Guests, during their evaluation period, and Premium Members can participate in VOG tournaments, but Premium Members have significant advantages:
  • If a tournament is limited to less then 32 entrants (usually Round-Robin tournaments) guests cannot signup during the first 10 minutes of the signup period. This gives Premium Members a privileged right to participate in such tournaments. If after 10 minutes the tournament isn't full - guests can signup too.
  • In Backgammon no more than 4 and in other games no more than 7 guests are allowed to play in a tournament and many popular tournaments are available to Premium Members only.
  • Any prizes awarded in tournaments can be used by Premium Members only.
  • Only Premium Members can play in Grand Slams of all tournaments - Tournaments of Champions. TOCs are usually held once a month and to qualify to play in a TOC you must win at least one tourney in the preceding month. TOCs are very competitive tournaments, which are a great challenge to play and a great honor to win.
  • Games adjournment and unique anti-dropper functionality Only games between Premium Members get adjourned (saved by the server) when one or both players lose connection. But that is only a part of the cake. VOG includes a unique method of handling adjourned games that makes game dropper's life very hard.

VOG's Anti-dropper functionality:

  • Every time when you connect to a gaming room, before you actually enter the room, server scans database for your adjourned games and forces you to make moves in them when it's your turn to make a move. There is no way to avoid making a move except for resigning the game. Thus even if you never meet with your opponent in person you will eventually finish the game as if playing by correspondence.
  • More over if no move was made in an andjourned game for over 20 days the game is forfeited and the loser is the player who's turn it is to move. Thus even if your opponent stopped visiting our server or is coming under a different nickname you will still get your rating points for the win.
  • There is also a limit to the number of adjourned games that a player can have. If the limit is exceeded the game(s) over the limit are forfeited in favour of the offending player opponents.

Thus VOG ensures that absolutely all rated games are finished and players ratings affected.

  • The last move in adjourned games is sealed To make sure that your opponents don't have a virtually unlimited time to think on their move when the game is adjourned VOG is designed so that they don't see your last move when the game is adjourned. The move is sealed until the game is resumed.
  • A list of adjourned games At any time you may see the list of your or any other player's adjourned games and even open games for review.
  • Access to full VOG Games Archive All players can perform queries in VOG Games Archive, but only Premium Members can open the games, see game transcripts, replay them and save games to a disk.
