Zones and federation: what is changing in the club

K khorost ✔ · · 6 min de leitura·👁 35

The club lives in two zones, vogclub.com and vogclub.ru, linked by a federation. What you get, which limitations to keep in mind, and why this is a step towards sites for clubs and federations.

The club now lives in two zones — vogclub.com and vogclub.ru — linked by a federation. First, the main points for those who already play.

Two game halls on opposite banks joined by a bridge: at a shared table on the bridge people play backgammon, chess, cards and go; in the distance, new island clubs

If you have an account on vogclub.com, it stays with your game history and the ratings you have earned. You don't need to move it or register again: you enter the open rooms of the ru zone with the same account.

If you are a new player, the zone depends on citizenship: Russian citizens — vogclub.ru, everyone else — vogclub.com.

Why zones

Different countries have different rules for storing personal data and running sites where people communicate. A single club "for everyone at once" can no longer meet all these requirements at the same time. So each zone has its own operator and its own documents:

  • vogclub.com — for players from all over the world, operated by FAIRPLAY APPS DOO (Serbia);
  • vogclub.ru — for players from Russia, operated by IP Khokhlova Svetlana Yurievna.

The zones keep account data separately: email, password, profile and payments never leave their zone. For playing together, the neighbouring zone receives only what is needed to sit at a table — more on that below.

What you get

One account — the available rooms of both zones. On a game page, next to your rooms, you will see the open rooms of the neighbouring zone marked ru or com.

The table opens through your zone. You play on your own site, and the neighbouring zone sees neither your IP address nor your device. Before your first entry the site will ask for consent and show what the neighbouring zone will receive: your player number, nickname, badges (verified, membership, active sanctions) and the moves of your games in its rooms.

Games live where their main audience is. The ru zone runs the Russian games: Preferans, Durak, Kropki (Dots), King, Kozel in dominoes, and Corners. The other games are in the com zone, but the ru zone has its own rooms in them too — where we taught the bots new rules: Narde, Tapa, Acey-Deucey and Crazy Narde with bots, Canadian 12x12 and Italian Checkers with bots. Players of both zones visit each other's rooms.

Your neighbour's ratings are visible too. On the "Groups" tab of the ratings page there is an "Other zones" block: the neighbouring zone's pools with a period switch and nickname search.

The Telescope shows other zones' games too. The block on the home page sometimes plays games from the neighbouring zone's rooms — with its zone mark next to the room name.

About ratings

A room's rating is kept by the zone that owns the room.

  • Backgammon, Checkers/Draughts, Chess, Reversi, WordEx, Hearts and the club's other games stay in the com zone with their whole history since 2001 — except the new bot rooms of the ru zone. Your rating in them is kept, and you play for it where you always have.
  • The ru zone's games are new to the club. Preferans, Durak, Kropki, King, Kozel and Corners open straight in ru, and it keeps their ratings.
  • Rooms of the same game in different zones are different pools. For example, the ru zone's backgammon rooms with bots have their own rating: games with bots in the ru zone do not change your backgammon rating on vogclub.com.

Limitations

  • Accounts are not moved or merged between zones. A player keeps their own number everywhere, and the neighbouring zone sees their card.
  • Nicknames can match in different zones. Two players with the same nickname are told apart by the zone mark.
  • Not all rooms are open to players of both zones. Each zone decides which rooms to open to its neighbours.
  • A neighbouring player's nickname is not shown everywhere. In the Telescope it appears if the player is a bot or has entered your zone's rooms with consent; otherwise you will see "Player ru" or "Player com" instead.
  • The neighbouring zone's game archive is open only to its own players. A player's history in another zone's rating pools is not available yet.
  • There is no communication between players in the vogclub.ru zone — no room or table chat, no quick phrases, no private messages. In vogclub.com rooms, players from the ru zone see only system messages. To reach the administration, use the contact form.
  • New accounts for Russian citizens are not created in the vogclub.com zone. Existing ones remain valid.
  • The Windows client works only with the vogclub.com zone. The ru zone's rooms are not in it — they are played in the browser, from the game page on the site.

We will lift limitations wherever we can and grow together with you.

A step towards clubs and federations

The mechanism that links two zones is not only for countries. It can be used to build a separate site for a club or a federation — with its own rooms, ratings, tournaments and rules — while staying in a shared space: your players will be able to visit the club's shared rooms, and the club's players — the rooms you open.

A lot still needs to be worked out here: first of all, the cost of such a site and the terms of its support. But the direction is set, and we are moving forward. If you run a club or a federation and this interests you, write to us through the contact form.

Thank you for playing with us!
